Air
Mauritius was incorporated in June 1967 and started its operations
modestly with a Piper-Navajo.
Today, the airline flies to the main European, Asian and African
destinations and service provided is levelled at international standards.
In this way a tradition was instituted; paradoxically, a tradition
made up of the constant need to evolve towards always renewed horizons.
The destiny of Air Mauritius is forged in the ambition of the people
of Mauritius who, since accession to independence, refused the perspective
of isolation. The first flights to the Sister-island of La Reunion
favoured the taking off of a regional identity founded in the brotherhood
of the people of the Mascarene. From there, with the symbol of the
Phaeton Rubicola, the legendary bird commonly called Paille-en-Queue,
Air Mauritius has drawn new routes over the oceans to link continents.
The National Carrier contributes significantly to the export-oriented
Mauritian economy. Air Mauritius Cargo carries some 42,000 tons
yearly and, in the perspective of increased transit activities,
the storage capacities have already been increased by 25%.

Air Mauritius also provides service to other airlines in the African
and Indian Ocean region. CARAT, the consulting arm of the Company,
markets Air Mauritius' capabilities in a wide range of airline operations,
including human resource development, IT, financial structuring,
maintenance and engineering, procurement strategy and financial
risk management.
1998, saw Air Mauritius approved as a JAR (Joint Aviation Requirements)
145 Maintenance Organisation by the French Direction Generale de
L'Aviation Civile (DGAC). The approval means Air Mauritius can perform
maintenance on aircraft and components belonging to the member states
of the Joint Aviation Authorities and that the company can sell
its services to other airlines in the region that require a JAR
145 release. Air Mauritius is launching a third party maintenance
base at SSR International Airport.
Air Mauritius maintains its commitment to high quality service.
Because the Mauritian carrier acts as an ambassador for the country
and reveals the image of its people. Those who fly Air Mauritius
realise that multiple elements in its offices and on board celebrate
"L'Esprit de l'Ile Maurice", the Soul of Mauritius. This
concept tries to express the blend of an innate sense of human encounter
with the urge to improve constantly.
